From its inception in 1974, The Woodlands has changed a great deal. Some of us feel the dream left some time ago with George Mitchell. The focus of the development company is now is on commercial development. It no longer exercises the same attitude about nature & allows flash cuts of valuable forest to only replant with containerized crepe myrtles & loblolly pines.Covenants which are in place to protect our property values and basic quality of life are at the heart of the controversy. The current development strategy believes it's cheaper to harvest all of the trees & then replant. For those of us not expecting to live another 50 years this method leaves a lot to be desired. Don't misunderstand the message provided here. We love our hometown. We want the development to continue but to adhere to the original plans and covenants that has made this such a wonderful place to live. Don’t be naïve or apathetic, these development projects will impact you as a resident. Open your eyes and see what is happening to the villages of Grogan’s Mill, Harper’s Landing, Indian Springs, Sterling Ridge, & Panther Creek. Take an active role in your community. |
